Convivium Musicum 2009 Season

Convivium returns to the cozy Cambridge Friends Meeting House and other familiar venues for 2009, and will be adding a performance in Salem, MA for our north shore audience members. We continue to offer a unique blend of the most beautiful music ever composed in a variety of venues spread throughout eastern and central Massachusetts. Winter 2009: Motets from Cantiones Sacrae 1575

Early Byrd

In 1575, Byrd, a rising musical star, and Tallis, nearing the end of his career, were granted a patent for the printing of music in England, and published a set of XX motets dedicated to Queen Elizabeth. Join us as we perform gems from this royal collection, including Byrd’s magnifcent 8-voice canon Diliges Dominum.

Music of Hassler, Praetorius & Schütz at Dresden

Going for Baroque

The Electors of Saxony made the court at Dresden a haven for Protestant composers including Hassler, Praetorius, and Schütz, shapers of the emerging Baroque idiom. Our concert will feature works for voices and viols by these German masters.
