Spring

Morales, Guerrero, & Lobo

Music from the Golden Age of Spain,

by Morales, Guerrero & Lobo

Convivium presents a concert of joyous and festive music by Cristóbal de Morales, Francisco Guerrero, and Alonso de Lobo. The program’s centerpiece is Lobo’s Missa Simile est regnum caelorum, a mass whose musical material is derived throughout from Guerrero’s radiant motet of the same name, which sets a parable about grace.

The rest of the program features music containing canons—a strict imitative technique whose challenges were relished by Spanish composers of the Golden Age.  Come hear Convivium Musicum in majestic, resonant venues around the Boston area and in Worcester as we perform some of the most beautiful music ever written.

Special event:  Scott Metcalfe, music director of Convivium Musicum for eleven years, is retiring from the group after these Spring concerts. Please join us at receptions following our Cambridge and Worcester concerts to celebrate Scott’s inspiring leadership!
